Earlier today, I walk out of my room to find my Honey Gourami lying on the substrate, not moving. I put some food in and tried to wake him up but he was dead. We believe that he either wasn't eating properly or had some prior disease when we bought him. We want to make sure that our 7 HarleQuine Rasboras stay alive but we also want to add another type of fish. It can be a centrepiece fish or some sort of schooling fish.. Any ideas for a 10 gallon tank?

Had it been acting off beforehand? Gouramis aren’t very picky.
Honeys typically do not get iridovirus like the dwarves do, but it’s a possibility.

When we first got him, he was very energetic and always swam around. But after around 3 days, he started hiding in the plants and the logs

Iridovirus was my first thought as well.

Any damages/indents on the fish?

Did the fish start to lose color before dying?

How was surface agitation? Gouramis don’t like it too rough.
I do think iridovirus is likely due to how common it is in gouramis, however it is almost always limited to just dwarf gouramis. There really isn’t much of a treatment, so all you can do is keep the tank healthy and clean. The rasboras wouldn’t be affected.

We have a small hang on back filter with not too much surface agitation because our water lettuce doesn't appear to be pushed around the surface a lot
