Reason I ask is, Im thinking of treating my tank.

My Chinese Perch has had a clamped pactoral fin for some time. It also looks like close to the joint theres a white spot. Ive asked around and no one knows what it is. I saw a forum post in another forum with a guy showing a pic of his Perch with the similar white spot. He got mixed answers on that.

Today, I saw another thread where a guy said he had ich on one of his fish, then he said: " The fishes fins arent clamped yet".

So once I heard that, it sounded similar to my problem. So I did some research and I read that Ich does clamp fins.

Another strange thing is I caught my fish twice rubbing/sliding its side on th gravel, as if it was trying to scratch its side. I read that fish do this when they got ich. I also read this other thing called "Glancing", where fish rub themselves too for relief.

I dont think this is ich, the fish has had this condition for awhile and theres no ich spots all over the fish. I think maybe it might have "Glancing".

Either way, both I heard can be treated with Aquarium Salt and something called "Quick Cure".

The problem I have is that I have a pleco and BGK, and I dont know if the BGK can tolerate salt or meds. Plus I heard this stuff can be harmful to plants too, and I have plants.

Theres this stuff called "Lifeguard" that I wanted to use, but it says not to use with scaleless fish, so I worry about the BGK.

Do you guys think I should go through with this treatment? What do you think is wrong with the perch? Water is perfect and has always been. I just dont wanna ignore this thing, but I dont even know if I have a problem in the 1st place.

Also, does aquarium salt help with wounds? My pleco has a few bites on him from being beat up. Nothing serious, but I'd like to help him heal. I just need some guidance, what would you do if this was your tank/fish? Thanks

Could you please post a pic of the white spot?

Dissolve salt before you add. Salt does harm the plants and can damage them but this is only temporary so I don't think it would be a problem unless your tank is heavily planted. If you can remove the plants temporarily and leave them in an isolated container without any fish as the possible ich's hosts for a few days, then you may be able to eliminate the ich without harming the plants at all. Ich needs its host and without it, they cannot live.

If you suspect ich as the main problem, then treat with table salt at a tablespoon per 5g dose. Be sure to dissolve it before you add. Keep the treatment for 14 days minimum.

Wounds...Water changes alone will suffice.

I cant get a reasonable pic of it, but heres a pic from another member: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174120

Mine has pretty much that white spot on its same pectoral fin, but mine is up more closer to the joint of the fin. The fin is also clamped and has a small split in the middle of it.

Its been like that for atleast 2 months. Some people said it could be a birth defect, because I didnt really notice it until 2 months ago. I dont think the whit spot is ich, because its been there for so long, theres no spreading white spots and no other fish have any spots. But aside form this, the fish ties to scratch itself on the gravel, on this fins side. So I dont know what it is, I only read that fish do this when they got ich or its soemthing else called "glancing", but dont know the reason for it.
