My fish died of ich. I want new fish. Iobviously will do a massive wc, but how else should I prep for new fish. I am not sure if the new fish could get sick from living in a tank that recently housed sick fish. Sorry if this is unclear. Sent from my phone.

water change clean filter and raise up the temp

Do you know how long the fish was dead in the tank? And are you sure what it died from?

If you saw the fish die and it did not die b/c it was sick I would just do a WC and add fish.

but if it died while you wre sleeping or away and it was sick I would do a massive cleaning job on the tank and bump up the temp and add salt when you refilled.

If you're positive it was ich you can bump the temp to 86-87 add salt drop in some food or add pure ammonia at 2ppm and wait a week or two while keeping the ammonia at 2ppm. The ammonia is to keep the tank cycled. The salt will kill any live ich parasites while the increased temps will accelerate the life cycle of ich. Without a fishy host the ich will die.

If you're not positive how the fish died you can tear the tank down clean everything with a light solution of bleach and water. Rinse. Rinse. Rinse. Setup the tank and cycle. Then add fish.

:iagree:

personally... I'de just rip it down, bleach the tank, clean the gravel really well. and re-cycle it. the above works well too. But i'de use it as an excuse to clean everything well 'n make sure all of my equipment is sound. depending how big the tank is. anything under 55 gal and i'de strip it 'n start fresh. over then I'de do the above suggestion.
