So I have a 5" rainbow wolffish in a 20 gallon tank by himself and I do WCs about every two weeks on his tank. I haven't had him long and yesterday was his second WC.

So I go to open the lid and start the siphon (it is attached to a hose so I just fill the cup attachment with tank water to start it) and he immediately went on the attack. So I decided that I would start with a different tank and then do his while the siphon was still going.

I come back to do the WC and he starts biting at the siphon right away and then starts trying to bite my hand. I shook it violently to scare him, but he just kept biting everything. I opened the lid to try to put my hand back in (to clean the gravel) and then he started looking at me through the top of the water and he can jump with a lot of force so I quickly closed the lid with the siphon still in the tank.

I did change the water, but I cannot just keep ignoring the gravel.

Does anybody have any tips on how to WC without getting attacked?

thats very comical. sorry i hhave no advice other than he might be less attack crazy if it in a bigger tank

when i do water changes on my red devils tank sometimes I have to put him in a net you can see him in my gallery hes Guapo anyway he has bitten the crap out of me and drawn blood so maybe try the net technique and see if it helps now when I do his water changes and he comes after my hands I just grab the net and let him see it and he usually backs off

If you have an aggressive fish, you could always try making fun of him to fix it. Lower his self esteem.
Point out his flaws, eyes far apart, maybe his belly is a bit big, etc. Really give it to him. Maybe every time you
feed him, give him a disappointing look, as if you were disgusted by him, burdened by his presence. I don't know,
might work. My dad says it works like a charm. Wait a second. . . . Ffffuuuuuu.....

Try setting the gravel vac in the tank (no siphon running) and just leaving it there for a while.

Maybe it will be less threatening if it just spent a week in the tank.

Wear gloves

if it's that big of a deal get a 5 gallon bucket fill it about 3/5 of the way, net him stick him in there and do a WC, otherwise buy some thick material cloth gloves and let him chew away at them haha
