When i feed my fish i notice that sometimes there are peices of the sand on the food when its sitting on the bottom..When they eat the food they consume some of the sand to(or it seems)

what kind of fish do u have? should be ok IMO. sand is fine it's a different thing when it's gravel or something.
No, it's horrible, fish always have perfectly clean food in nature. 
The only problems you will run it to is with certain fish like bichirs on larger gravel, because when they eat they can ingest it and it can can blockages.
