I downloaded this app hoping to find anyone who has experienced their fish having ich (white spot disease). I bought a new tank, fully cycled, then added 2 new young oranda goldfish. They broke out with ich and I have been treating them with the heater set at 84 degrees, aquarium salt, Kordon Ich Attack (herbal treatment), and water changes. It has just been coming back again and again. My water levels are stable.. I just can't figure out what the issue is. Also, I just noticed one of them has a hole (about the size of his eye) on each gill cover. Is this due to ich or something else?

Will need some more info, starting with:
Amount per water change, tank size, frequency of water changes. I've never experienced ich coming back, but I'm no expert with overloaded tanks.

From mouth to start of tail they are 1.5 inches. They are in a 20 gallon long at the moment. Aqua Clear HOB 40 gallon filter. Removed carbon before treatment. I've been doing a 25 percent water change and adding back the appropriate salt content. I've been doing a ratio of 1 tablespoon of Jungle Aquarium Salt per 10 gallons.

try shifting your substrate/decor/plants and getting the ich lose.
ich has to be free floating for it to be killed. keep up the water
changes and everything your doing. also instead of ich attack
try rid-ich from what i know its from the same company but
ich attack is a herbal organic treatment. might not be strong
enough to completely kill off all the ich.

as for the holes on the gills it could be ulcers, parasites
bacteria, fungus or another reason.

you should probably isolate the fish and treat it with antibiotics

and hello there from cerritos im also from cerritos lol

lower the temp down to around 76-78, 84 can do permanent damage to gold fish as they live in colder temps. Ich isnt that big of a problem, the problem is what caused the fish to get ick aka "new tank syndrome". I'm guessing that the tank isnt cycled which in combination with being stressed from its new home is the cause of the ick.

If the tank isnt cycled buy some prime or safe. Safe is the same thing as prime but a ton more concentrated. Dosge till ammonia is gone testing every 24-48 hours and your gold fish should recover with bumped temp and a bit of salt. That should do the trick.

If the temp/salt thing isn't working then switch to a better med.

I use ParaGuard by SeaChem. It works every time for ich. To me there is no better med out there for that particular affliction.

To the person suggesting shaking the decor around, thats not how ich works....While a good substrate vaccuuming will help to remove some of the ich cysts on the bottom of the tank it will not make the ich free swimming just by moving the cysts into the water column. Meds generally only work when the ich is free swimming and you have to wait out the life cycle. Raising the temp accelerates this but that is the only step you can take to move the process along.

Lower the temp to around 75 or 80 and dose with a stronger med. Thats all you can do. Good luck.

Also, that tank isn't cycled unless you bought it the day the previous owner tore it down. BB won't stay alive very long without food/oxygen.
