I have a female fader that has been fading since December. I slowed down her feedings to try and catch one of my males up to her size for breeding that may slow it and she has had an external parasite issue also.
The fish is an escondido x blood parrot. They are in a 20 gallon with 10 black skirt tetras. I have ten of them and one came in really dark and still is. Another one was very pearly when I got him but now has turned extremely dark almost black with no pearls. Not sure if this is a kind of fish that fades but it seems odd to me that he would change so dramatically so quickly. Seems like too drastic of a change to be stress related and he appears to be perfectly happy and healthy.
If they are together, wouldn't the more dominant fish change colors faster than the less dominant ones? also, couldn't the less dominant ones be turning dark to avoid the attention of their superiors?
