I have 2 vieja gutts they have been living together for about 5 months with no problems. Both are about 7-8 inches and live in a 75 with a 4" pleco. Just today the male REALLY started beating up on the female... Nothing has changed so why start the fighting now??? I'm concerned because my female doesn't look too good.... Also what should I do?

Separate them if he seems just ready to kill her.

Just around that size they reach maturity, he is ready to breed she might not be ready, or they did not bond.not all M/F that start out together will end up as a pair.maybe you can add some more hiding spots, or target fish

+1. I would divide em for the time being till they begin to bond as a pair.

Have they ever had any successful clutches? A dead batch of eggs could cause the to fight
