dont know if its been said here.
does anyone go fishing for fish,
then fillet them and cut the fillets into small cubes to feed there fish?
im thinking it would be free food.
and use an ice cube tray to freeze a bunch, one ice cube a day. :D
would this be ok for fish?
thanks in advance.

I feed my fish with fish fillets. I cut them into smallish cubes and freeze them in small sealable bags (enough for one feeding). I do the same with prawns.

Some people say they loose some of the nutritious value if frozen for too long, but it works for me. This is the staple diet of my monster tank, which is supplemented with a variety of live or prepared food, and pellets...

:D

The freezing of fresh fish has the benefit of killing parasites that may be introduced to the tank. Good idea.
Feeding fresh fish is fine. I would only recommend ensuring that no organs or viscera are fed along with the white fish flesh. Pathogens and chemicals may reside in the organs that may have harmful effects on your fish. Usually, the organs filter the bulk of this material out before it reaches the flesh.

Fillets are the way to go once your fish get larger....cheaper and still do the job if supplemented with other goodies as well.

Some sink, some float. It all depends on the oil content in the flesh of particular species. And, before you ask...find out for yourself. I'm not about to list which float and which sink. It's not to be mean. It's due to the fact that a number of species have flesh that can do both. It depends on where and when they were caught. Regional and seasonal physiological differences come into play.

I've given my fish immitation crab meat before and they loved it. Especially the puffers.
