i'm wondering what i should keep in the house for fish meds.
has anyone tryed out the hikari line of meds?
what about seachem i've been using alot more of there products?
i'm just looking for sugestions to cove the basics.

Hikari makes Prazi-Pro, which ppl seem to really like (treats internal parasites - flukes, worms).

A good BROAD spectrum Parasitic treatment is Parasite Clear by Jungle Labs. I would buy the 100 tab dispenser for $25 from Petsmart.com OR drfostersmith.com (way cheaper).

Also, always have salt on hand. I just learned you can use Morton Water Softener salt from Home Depot. You get a 40 lb bag for $5 !!!! I dose 1 tablespoon for each 5 gallons (to aid in wound healing and also use when treating ich). OR add 4 tablespoons to 1 gallon of water to make a salt bath solution. Add fish to water for no longer than 30 seconds.

For bacterial infections, I use Potassium Permanganate. It's a very toxic oxidizer but it will work (many Koi hobbyist use PP). It will kill not only the infected flesh, but kill surrounding flesh in the wound. This will ensure that the infection is completely destroyed.

Can also use Fixodent (denture adhesive, get the powder form) as a bandaid. Make sure to treat the wound prior to apply bandaid.

Let us know if you have any other trade secrets.

Good luck!!! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Hey thanks for the reply. i am going to try prazipro and i do always have some salt and carbon sitting around but not much eles for meds so it always takes a couple days to notice somthing then to go out and buy the product for it it. fixodent thats a new one for me thanks. as far as PotassiumPermanganate gose do i just look for that at a pool supply store?

PP can be bought at pool supply stores or sometimes Lowes has it.

Make the PP into a paste and only apply it onto the affected area. Wear gloves as PP is toxic and a carcinogen. (you can throw fish back into tank after applying paste, residual PP doesn't seem to harm tank that much).

Salt (no yellow prussiate included)
Iodine solution/Hydrogen peroxide
Potassium permanganate
Formalin/Malachite green
Trichlorfon/Dimilin
Tetracycline/Kanamycin
Praziquantel
Metronidazole
