I have a juvenile Snakehead fish in a 3 x 1.5 x 1.5 feet tank. The other occupants are tetras that are separated by a divider.

I noticed the snakehead flashing( He rubs only his gill areas on the sand and not his whole body), usually about 3-4 times. However i cant exactly tell how many times he does this per day. The tetras don't flash, and there are no white spots on them at all, no abnormal red gills flaps. Is it possible to rule out water quality, and determine its parasites? Or am i being paranoid?

Could be something simple.. doesnt like how bright the tank is... doesnt like the size of tank... doesnt like its tank mates... any of those and more could be triggering some stress and causing him to flash.. or so has been the case for some of my past fish freinds... my jack would stress when she had dithers in her tank... just didnt like smaller fish zooming around her tank... took them out... back to normal
Just my thoughts

How big is the snakehead? The tank is pretty small.. and you have a devider in it... could be the tank is too small for the fish... all I can suggest is up your water changes and maybe add some salt could help.. hopefully others will chime in with more experience with fish disease.. or experience in general.. I'm no expert that's for sure

He is about 6-7 inches. And i cant add salt because snakeheads have little to zero tolerance to salt

If ur not seeing any obvious ich or infection then just watch.

To be honest, he actually has been doing this for weeks. And im afraid because there is no telltale signs for gill flukes other then flashing

Seen prior posts with snakeheads doing the same and hasn’t turned into anything.
