What can I feed my fish as extra protein to make them grow faster. The store feed has 33% crude protein but my fish grow way faster with the 44% crude protein foods just that they're like 10x more expensive especially when I'm buying 20lbs at a time.

Something with around 10% fat; the fish will burn the fat as a quick energy source and use the protein to build mass. There other other factors too, fillers that are not digestive friendly (grains, ash). I power feed my fish night crawlers and a quaility pellet when I'm trying to bulk them up. In most cases (not all) the more expensive food is better. You need to study the ingredients from several brands and weigh the pro's and con's.

my fish grow at a steady rate, but they do grow and alot. like i was telling my husband today are fish have atlast doubled in about a 1month on this diet. Are community fish, not our cichlids (they have a differnt diet) , eat the following
Crude Protein 45% Min.
Crude Fat 5% Min.
Crude Fiber 5% Max
Moisture 9%

the ingredients in this include fish meal, what flours, brine shrimp, krill, kelp meal, and alot of vitamins and nothing artificial. I have had success with this so u can try to find something similar.

are fish grow fast even though its not high in fat, quality of the food makes a big difference too. dont ust go for the priciest thing is not always the best IMO

When I am power feeding my fish I use a lot of fresh and frozen foods and supplement with pellets. Freeze dried krill is also a staple in my fishes diets. I use some live foods as well feeders after a quarintine period, ghost shrimp crickets, black worms, night crawlers etc. Of course it depends on what type of fish you are trying to bulk up.

Thanks for some quick responses. I should clarify that I am starting a tilapia project for consumption. There isn't much choice for feed here in hawaii. Theres only 1 major feed store locally and thats all they sell. The lfs sells of course Hikari but I don't need that type of quality. I was wondering of more cheap suppliments that I can feed them along with the regular. The guy I got them from say's on the current feed it will take 2.5 years!! By then they'll be more like family instead of food :D.

have you tried Purina AquaMax or other gamefish foods...can be found at feed stores most of the time

I checked online that purina aquamax which looks pretty good but I couldn't find a dealer within 100 miles of hawaii. How much is it usually running per lb. of food?

Around me I'm seeling $22-27 per 50 lb sack of food depending on the type. A guy in California sells krill meal for about 20 cents per pound- 60% protein content. Might be a cheap alternative for you if you want to mix your own food, although this may be a bit tedious to do it on a large scale.
