Hikari Gold is pretty good but I prefer NLS.
imo you should never go the "cheap" route when it comes to food, get the best you can afford and you will be rewarded with beautiful, healthy fish.

New Life Spectrum does not cost more than other food in my experience; one container lasts suprisingly long compared to other brands of pellets made of corn or of flakes made of sh##.
hikari gold is good stuff and not too expensive but most cichlid food isnt more than 8 dollars or so
You really want value, value = maximum bang for the buck, cheap = lots of filler.
