I used to get that when I didn't have access to better foods like New Life Spectrum and Northfin (via online ordering). I no longer find the Hikari cichlid gold to be a decent brand for my fish. If I had to get Hikari, it would be the Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold.
I feed my cichlids hikari cichlid gold mini pellets. They love it and are doing great off of it.
I think they're supposed to be one of the better brands.
I feed my cichlids a rotation of foods. One of them is Hikari. I like it. It doesn't cloud the water.
I use that, great for water cleanliness, kept cichlids alive for their full lifespan with good colours. Just supplement now and again with real in processed food.
