are there any monster fish i can keep in a 30g planted tank? ive seen those little small schooling fish but im looking for something better. any suggestions?

It depends on what you consider "monster." To make my "monster" list, the species has to meet at LEAST one of the following criteria: big, mean, or odd. This puts you at an immediate disadvantage. "Big" doesn't work with a 30g. "Mean" usually denotes eating and/or killing your algae clean-up crew, which isn't completely necessary to have, but it definitely helps. This leaves "odd" and IMO, your best bet of finding a "monster." There are tons of fish that are odd enough to be considered monsters. I've always thought that african butterfly fish were pretty neat, and I think they'd do okay in a 30g.

If you mean dwarf cichlids, you should be fine. I have rams in my 29g and I've kept apistos before and they never really dug anything.

I've never kept any type of pike but I think you could house dwarf pikes in a 30g pretty easily. I'd be careful with the species you choose though because they can still be aggressive with smaller fish and anything they could eat. A lot of pikes like to hide most of the time as well so you should consider that also.
