Hello,
Im working on a 125. I originally had it set up on new years but had a problem when the filter burst and spilt 20 gallons of water all over my carpet. So Im making it a summer project to move it to my other house and set up a monster tank. I was going to do an african cichlid display but the cost and time is a little more than i expected. Im just gonna start with something that requires a little less maintenance and money. Here some fish im considering now:

Largemouth bass or peacock bass
Arowana (of some sort)
Oscar,or red devil maybe a green terror
Flowerhorn
Albino and standard channel catfish
bichir
asian redtail catfish
clown knife
red bellied pacu
tiger shovelnose catfish

So anyway i know this is a lot. Like, way too many fish, but These are fish i am interested in. From the list above, which fish could you recomend for my tank. The reason i am considering the largemouth bass is because i have connections with a fish farmer and he can sell me some 2" bass. and i have a friend who has a bass pond so i can always release it when it gets too big. Same story for the channel cats. The farmer can get me some of those and my friend has catfish in his pond so i can release it too.

I think it would be kind of cool to have one sort of cichlid like an oscar or green terror, i mean , if it would even be compatible.

I am a huge fan of arowanas so maybe recomend a certain type for my tank.
anyway just list what would work from my list

Id go with the peacock bass or african pikes but if your going to upgrade an rtc or pacu would be cool

red tail catfish sort of like a tiger shovelnose but in my opinion cooler

Natives will likely cost and arm and a leg to feed.
just about everything you listed will outgrow the 125 in a year or so, as well as bring a heafty food bill.
Oscar/JD and other CA cichlids would be a nice option imo.

Whats the difference between an asian redtail and a redtail. My fish shop has some asian redtails for 5.00 and then they have plain redtails for a LOT more

I can feed them with pellets. The farmer feeds all his fish pellets and my friend has a ton of guppies in his pond.

Also, are ca cichlids hardier and easier to care for than african peacock cichlids?

ya defenitly everything you listed will out grown the 125 except the oscar or green terror
which u could only have two in the 125 and maybe a couple small tank mates
everything eles you will run into space issues and water quality issues
it not fun doing 50% water changes every 3 day just to keep water in check.

and with the oscar you will most likly incounted water issues as they will not out grown the tank but are messy eatters which require alot of filtration.....you need canister filters to keep up with oscars not HOB
