I have a 55 setup (growout) and established with parameters all in check. Inhabitants are a 4" Salvini and a 5" Texas, both I believe are male and 1 Giant Danio. These guys have always readily eaten and come right up to the feeding area w/out hesitation. The last few days they have absolutley gone bizerk everytime I get near the tank. I'm running 2 Emp 280's with some cellpore in the back slots and the standard filter cartridge in the front for mechanical, with the carbon poured out. I recentley purchased the imagine filters with the carbon in them and replaced the standard filters about a week ago. Anyway, the 2 cichlids are going bizerk everytime I get near the tank, anyone have any clue? Is it the carbon? I do weekly waterchanges of about 35-40%...PH level is around 7.2-7.4....

i doubt the carbon has anything to do with it. check your heater! make sure its still in working order, or not cracked. also how much traffic is near this tank, usually? any increase? or have you moved the tank recently? does the danio get spooked too?

Minimal traffic, but they have never done this the 6 months the tank has been setup, normally the Texas is just begging for food and greets me at the side of the tank. I would think if the heater would be hosed they would be going bizerk with or w/out me in the room, I'll still check it, but it's a new ebo-jagger that's shatter proof....:nilly: The Danio seems fine, just doing what Danio's do, constantly moving....

Little rare but may be a power leak in your tank and its giving a very small shock, not able to be felt by humans, and can be very stressful on fish

Come to think of it, I did plug in a different power filter for a 40g underneath but in the same power strip. I unplugged the heater for about a 1/2 hour and I'm going to flip on the room light her shortly and see what the deal is.... Any suggestions on how to fix a power leak?

i think the fish you got is just hyper to see you since they are used to you and now associate you with food. I'll bet you feed them good and since fish are always looking for food, and you have cichlids, which are pretty smart, and have good eyesight, and they are also probably gotten a little bit bigger too, so it's probably normal. Try adding some more giant danios since they are supposed to be schooling fish and the extra numbers may calm your cichlids down.
