Fish going crazy

I have a fish that is swimming in rapid circles then floats to the bottom. He will then spin a few times. After a while he seems to be ok then it all starts up again. It is only happening to this one fish I have had him for several weeks already. I noticed it last night. Any thoughts or possible cures?

I believe it is some type of tetra. It is a siver/grey and has a faint blue stripe. It's about 1.5" and shouldn't get bigger then maybe 3". I have a pretty stocked tank but all my fish at maturity will be between 1-4".

Could be whirling disease caused by a bacterial infection or a parasite. Hard to diagnose. Often fatal.

Does it spread and is there anything I can put in tank to prevent it from happening again?
