I have other mbuna in there……and it’s not that big of a tank. It’s a 46 bowfront……..I can’t go too crazy.

Planning some redecorating here and will make room for a bigger tank and see where it goes from there. I have had this mbuna tank running in my living room for about 5 years. It’s time to go bigger.

I would skip the all-male stocking with mbuna...even in a larger tank.

Agreed, mbuna are less 1 male of a bunch of varieties/species more 1 male with a harem of females.

I have a male Metriaclima Greshakei and 2 females. Everything else is male.
My tank adults aside from the Metriaclima are
1 Kenye
1 OB
and one I can’t remember the name of…..(pic below)

There are 3 Metriaclima fry in there but the rest of what ever that brood count was were munched……I don’t collect the babies as they usually disappear quickly. I’m amazed these 3 have made it a couple of weeks.

I received the same advice about keeping a male/female ratio in another forum. when i get my larger tank set up I may just pick 4 species and get a male from each and then get some matching females. It would probably be fun to watch the behavior.

Do you guys raise the babies or just leave them to get munched….? All that mating would probably be a baby making facility….lol

I leave all of mine in tank but I have the tank set up for fry not be successful. Ironically I was feeding last night and saw 2 lab fry that I know have been in the tank for a few weeks. Not sure how they have avoided being snacks.

I leave them unless I want to raise a batch for tank replenishment or auction donations.

Its tough for me to see the babies then ignore them till they are gone. Had to learn to do that. I just want to keep them all…..lol
