Agree it is a snook but not a true snook, which sometimes creates confusion so why I used the scientific name,
because there are many fish called snooks, the one you have is the "cichlid" sometimes referred to as a snook, maybe because it has a similar mouth to the true snooks that are none-cichlids.
Centropomus parallelus= the fat snook
Centropmus pectinatus=the black snook
Centropomus robalito= the little snook
Centropomus undecimalis=the common snook
