At first I thought they were bluegill, but I dont think they are after looking at the pics a little more. Anyone know?

those picts are all of bluegill

bluegill will NOT have any coloration on the gill flap, it will be solid drk blue or black

bluegill will have a round black spot on the back dorsal and anal fin above where the tail meets the body. it is less apparent with a breeding male (the last pict)

also most other sunfish will have a white or colored frill on the edges of their dorsal and anal fins these fish do not have them.

green verticle bar patterns on juvinile bluegill are also a good indicator

I would say 100% bluegill

They're bluegill.

yea i agree bluegill or some kind of hybrid possibly bluegill/green sunfish or warmouth perch/bluegill. and matthew you are right the second fish does look alot different the blue dorsal on the gill is huge compared the to the other but it may also be just becuase the first pic is a juvi.

They are 100% bluegill, not hybrids. They look more streamlined when young but will get a deeper body and head when older.

And actually, juvinile or adult, bluegills have a unique shape and coloration... It's hard to explain, but if the fish was black and white, or just an outline, I can still tell.
