Okay so at one of my LFS (Uncle Bills on the south side for the locals) There are two fish that look similar but different. One looks like a small barramundi and the other one does also but it has a vertical stripe going down the length of it forehead and it fins look a little greener. It is is about 5 inches long. Do Barramundis sometime have a line like this and others will not? They do not have mush of a pattern or anything on their bodies, the smaller one which I'm almost sure is a barra has nothing on it. They were supposedly ordered as red Datnoids which I know they are not datnoids and they are not mangrove jacks either. Hopefully this post makes sense any help or pics would be great. Thanks

I did try finding pics on my own but can not find anything like it :(

take a pic of the actual fish if you cant find anything that matches it

k cool I'm pretty sure that's what it is then. do they eat prepared food at all I asked the guy to feed him and neither would touch the pellets but when he threw in rosies he ate more of them than any other fish in the tank. It was pretty cool to watch him go to town on them. They are pretty small though still.

Mine quickly starting eating market shrimp. He grew fast too...about 2" a month until I had to get rid of him!

I will post pics when I get home from work.

shouldn't look like a barraduda if its a barra i'd say by your descriptions its a chianese pearch or a barra if its a pearch grab it if its a barra make sure you have a tank you can swim in they get huge

probably another of the lates species?
btw, nandus look almost like baby barras.
and nandus, like young barras, have that stripe down their forhead.

it's a barra (barramundi that is) To bad I was hoping it would be something similar that wouldn't get as large but there is no way I can house that monster :( Maybe for a while but not for long enough. And it would probably eat me into the poor house

Sounds like a Mundi. All of the ones I've seen have a stripe on their forehead.
