I don't even know if its an African but that was my best guess? Got them off a mate who was moving house 2 around the same size.

Sorry for the crappy photo its still in a bag while i setup an old tank.

its not an african cichlid its south american. Its a bad photo but im pretty sure its a blue acara if not a green terror

Would need to see it in a tank, or at least out of the bag ... but am leaning towards 'Geophagus' brasiliensis.
 
Yeah, I'm guessing brasiliensis too. Hard to tell though without seeing the face, and the dorsal/pectoral fins.
 
Are you filling the "old" tank up with cycled water? Did you just do a water change, is that why you said filling up a old tank? Or are you actualy putting the fish into an uncycled tank?
 
It's a Geophagus Itapicuruensis, a sub-species of the brasiliensis.

They're one of the most aggressive earth eaters I've ever kept, my 8" one even put me Jaguar into place. Good luck.
