I was in Big Al's today and saw a certain fish which I cant for the life of me remember what its called. Its grows to around 14" (I think), it has yellow and black vertical stripes around 6 of each color down the length of it's body, Its long and roundish somewhat resembling a shark, its not a gar, bala/ID shark, its not rare, a 8"-10" one would cost around $10-15, it looks almost identical to a bumblebee cichlid but I know for a fact that that's not what it is.

Can anyone name that fish. I didn't intend for this to be a game. I'm seriously trying to figure it out so I can then ask you guys if it's compatible with large oscars.;)

Leporinus, and yup, they're great with Oscars.

Leporinus! yes that's the one. My local Big Al's has one around 10-12" for $10. Also they have a 12" oscar for $10. I think I might pick up both tomorrow. :naughty:

those things are viscous! I had one in a experimental tank with 2 blue torpedo sharks and it killed them both =[

really? hmmm...

EDIT: well it'll be going in a 125g (72") along with the 12" Oscar, another 6" Oscar, and a 12" pleco.

They great with other big mean fish like cichlids.

I've had leporinus with cichlids; I wouldn't call them "vicious", but I'd agree that they can be nasty, especially as they get older/larger . . . and they need a fair amount of tank space, so your tank sounds like a good fit

personally, I wouldn't worry about them with oscars
