I believe thats a bowfin but it might be a snakehead. Let someone else confirm it.

That's a snakehead! Where you caught it at?
 
Don't looks like a young bowfin that I used to collect them during the job. The anal fin is too pointed and the mouth is terminal. Not mentioned that the color is wrong for young bowfin.
 
The anal fin is not clearly visible which is why I noted it above, its folded against the body. The mouth looks just like the bowfin I had in my tank, very thick lips. The coloring will look different on each bowfin, all wont look the same, especially on land out of the water.

I know that Bowfins are illegal to keep in Nevada.

Perhaps the OP can tell us what is the location where he caught the fish in question.

But I could be wrong.
To my knowledge, there's no bowfin populations in western United States tho there is a small population of snakehead in Arkansas.
