Saw this fish at LFS...clerk said it was a freshwater barracuda but she said she didn't know anything about it. It was about 4 in long. Can you tell me what it is, tell me about it, how big it will get, etc...

Hmm...looks like some species of brycon.Its a shame the way a lot of the store people slap that common name on just about any elongated fish that they are not sure of...Anyhow,brycon can become aggressive as they get bigger and they can reach about twelve inches in length.normally eat small fish but can be trained onto other foods and they are in the characin family.
 
Yeah, this one was super aggressive. While I was looking at it, it took a huge chunk out of an Oscar that was in the tank and the clerk said it has attacked two RTCs and killed them in the last couple days

...and knowing at least that much,the store people went on ahead and placed it in a tank with an Oscar.

Sao Pablo / Ecuadorian Barracuda is a common name to the fish stores.
