Fish id?

Got this fish as a rescue but not sure what it is, any ideas? Trying to figure what tank to put him in till I can find a better home.

Looks like a juvenile geophagus altifrons to me but it could be abalios

sand substrate recommended/preferred as they sift through it all day.

Think it would be ok in a 75g with 2 breeding pair firemouths? Just for now. Otherwise its a jewel/green terror tank or oscar tank.

Take a better picture of the face. Do I see a black marking on the cheek? If so, it is not G. altifrons or G. abalios. Either way, you may have an issue with the firemouths because they occupy the same area of the tank and are essentially like the Central American version of Geophagus. There was just a thread a few days ago about a firemouth harassing a geo.

Also, geos seem more comfortable when you keep them in groups.
