I bought this little red cichlid without knowing the actual name ... red terror or maybe red texas ... any ideas???

Nice pickup should be a looker! That little guy or girl is a red jewel cichlid.

what is the max size it can reach ???

It is one of the jewel cichlids, a Hemichromis species, but very hard to tell which one, many are very similar to each other. H guttatus and bimaculatus are most commonly available.
Most max out at about 5", a few larger, a few smaller.
