Any ideas? Was told venustus blue ahli.

It looks like niether of those to me. I would say it look like a Copadichromis.

Can venustus even be hybridized?

If it is a hybrid (ahli/venustus) there would be no way to ID it, because hybrids don't necessarily look like any one or the other, IDing a hybrid is much like IDig a mutt dog you when you don't know what the parents are.
It does look a bit Haplochromine, so you would be better off posting in the Rift Lake African section
Here are a few pure Nimbochromis livingstoni (venustus is from the genus Nimbochromis) to compare
