NEW ZEALAND: a very strange and mysterious fish found!!!!![/paste:font]

This fish was found washed up on Durville Island, in New Zealand in the last weekend. Very few information about this catch reached us.

Seems to be a Spotted Fanfish (Pteraclis velifera), also called Diamond Tooth Whistler. Usually a South American local fish, known as a Wet Spooner or Black Candy.

Maximum size seems to be 20 inch. An other strange creature of the Oceans

Thanks for the ID. Thats the last time I try to help a fishing member on a forum. He made it as though he just caught the thing. Now we know he lifted it from some place in 2013.....
Anyways thanks...but way cool fish. Would like to have one in a tank!

That looks cool. Almost fake looking. Like a mini longfinned mahi-mahi. Lol.

No problem. Sorry he wasted your time. Cool fish either way.

I actually did a google image search hoping I would get lucky and a similar fish would come up in the results. Not sure if I was silly for thinking that would work. Does work for finding the same picture on other sites though. Also have used it when I've wanted to identify an animal in someones avatar.
