I got this little guy at my LFS which tends to mess up a lot of fish names it was sold to me as a "platinum balloon severum" but I am pretty sure that is not even a real fish. He is just under an inch long. If anyone knows please let me know.

It's a severum that has been line bred for what the sales folk call the platinum color by the looks of it. Not sure where the "balloon" part comes from, considering that severums are already rounded in shape.

it looks to be an ordinary Severum but I’ll @ the Severum guy for you.

Ok I wasn't sure when i looked up the name to see how big it grows i saw no information on the species

Seems these days designer mutations like "balloons, parrots, and short bodies" have become a fad, just like balloon goldfish were in the 50s, or decades ago, so LFSs may think tacking on a cutesy add on to a name could be a selling point, whether or not it has anything to do with reality .

It’s not Heros. It appears to be a platinum convict, Amatitlania sp.

There are no platinum severums. The closest thing would be a gold. But the head and eye shape from the second picture don’t look Heros to me. A video of it moving around when it settles in will confirm.

It's possible, because this fish store is not my favorite they focus more on the money. The owner is a awesome guy but the employees are not the most informed people.

Ok thanks i'll try to get a video tonight. Also it's weird because it looks nothing like the convict i have in the same tank that is the same size as the platinum
