Anyone know the species? Was sold to me as a shovelnose hybrid. Was born without eyes it seems. It's about 4 inches long.

My initial reaction was "poor little fella born without eyes" until I recalled that such cats don't seem to depend a whole lot on their vision anyhow.Apologies for not being able to help with an ID.
Yeah look at his fat gut. Has no problem finding food and instantly reacts to the lid being open. Cheers
Mother TSN, likely P. fasciatum. Father Leiarius, likely marmoratus. Indeed a TSNxLei hybrid, man made for food in SA. First time I see an eyeless one but catfish seem to not care much.

You da man! I see now that I own a super rare. Not even the staff at the place I bought it new what it was. They didn't even know it was hiding in one of their tanks until my keen eyes spotted it. Appreciate it brotha
yes i felt sad too, but then the fish would never have experienced sight first so it would not be missin anything eh? and it most probably would not know its friends in the tank can see. besides even if it could see all it could see would be the tank and the outside room fer the rest of its life (unless it be in a place with lot of activity). anyway, it would not be that bad fer the fish lol
Can fish see outside of the tank? Is my FH able to see all around my room? I’ve always thought they could see just a little bit past the tank but then I imagine it getting blurry or something.
All my fish with eyes can physically see and differentiate me from all other people, as soon as I walk into the room from across it with freakish focus. But all my fish both blind or not can feel my particular vibrations with what appears to me to be a keener sense .
That’s weird. I’ve never knew this was a thing. Does make sense though, every morning when I wake up, the second I open my eyes the first thing I always see if my flowerhorn staring at me
