I posted another thread trying to identify this fish when I just got him. Now he is settled in my 90 gallon SA community. His stripes darkened and his fins are a deep redish-brown. Between the stripes he is showing some green/tan. There was no full agreement as to what he is on my last post, just that he may be a hybrid. I caught him in a brakish stream on Oahu. The last picture is what he looked like when I just got him. What is he?

I work at a pet store and we sell a cichlid that looks just like that. It's known as a mayan cichlid. That's my opinion

could it be a barred version of a cichlid from the amphilophus genus? but i don't know about those red eyes...

I looks like a CA cichlid and it looks mean. Some type of Amphilophus I would say but I am not good with the CA cichlids. It almost like like a young Flower horn.

Ive actually puchased a couple of these guys like 3 minths ago thinking they were barred midas and they ended up shedding into a whitish orange color and becoming just your everday midas. Very Nice when they shed. You never know what your gonna end up with.

did they have a dot at the base of the tail? I think that if there is a barred juvanile variety, then this must be it. Among the many invasive species in that stream, there are midas/red devil.

not a flowerhorn! looks like its from the Amphilophus family. Could fade but cooler if it doesn't, imo
