Good Day All this is my first post on the forums. i wonder if you can help me identify one of my fish I bought is at a LFS still a baby they told me its a Flower Horn but couldn't tell me the sex here is photos of the fish they are not clear i will take more pics tonight. if anybody can help me identify it i would appreciate it .

Yes it looks like a hybrid, and sexual distinctions can be rather nebulous in hybrids.
In pure bred cichlids, a dark area in the dorsal can be an indicator, but with hybrids, these distinctions are often blurred.
Flowerhorn is kind of a catch-al term for hybrid, especially if it just some kid down the street trying to "create" a FH by putting random species together.
With Herichthys like carpintus it can be fairly easy to spot a female by the dark blotch in the female below, and her more torpedo shaped profile.

With many Vieja it is much more difficult task to ID gender differences, although a female breidhori can be obvious if in spawning dress.
