I have a friend who showed me this photo of a fish he owns and claims it to be a Dolphin Head Tiger Shovel Nose Catfish. Neither of us could find anything on the bottomless searches on the internet, which has lead me to here. Does anyone know if this is the proper common name for this fish? Or any more information in regards to it? He bought is for $80 cause no one else wanted it. Thanks for any help in advance.

Probably just completely deformed lol

Unfortunately it is thought to be poor genes.

I have two very young tsn which both growing fine until I recently moved them into a larger tank which was 6.4 ph instead of 7. After acclimatising, both started to show the bent down heads after just two weeks. I moved them into a ph 7.0 tank and both have stopped deforming. This is a finding I was extremely surprised to see. So maybe it is not as simple as only poor genes !!!
But unfortunately this is not a rare fish, just one that someone needs to love!

Well I have informed him that he is in fact not the owner of a rare $5,000 fish but only one with a deformity. He has embraced it well. Thanks for the explanation!

As the guys say above.

Tiger shovelnose are artificially bred and farm raised cheaply and carelessly and many have defects. This particular defect is well known and called a camel face or a duckbill, etc. and pretty common. This extreme extent seems rare though. So yes, this is a rarely deformed TSN.

Ridiculous Ebay ad, someone is trying to find a fan of deformed fish, which may be ok but to exclude the questionable shipping of $4.20 from the $5000 tag seems asinine. The seller would be lucky to find someone to pay $100 for it anyway.

Dave, what a story...! Are you sure your eyes are not deceiving you? This sounds unfathomable.
