Ok so has anyone been watching this show called Blackout on syfy? They stick people in a pitch black room and they have to touch, smell, feel and what have you, to guess what item is in boxes or aquariums. I have been stunned at home many times they use live freshwater fish in this show. In one show the lady has to sit in a tank with dozens of freshwater morays (Gymnothorax tile) and she grabbing and kicking and flopping these eels out of the tank. And today they have to "Bob or apples" and they have these huge goldfish or koi in a 10g like the length of the tank and the people are just manhandling the fish and this one chick even bites the live huge koi and lifts it up out if the water. I dont know maybe im blowing it out of proportion but i hate seeing how disposable they make fish on tv. Theyre still animals why dont they get humane treatment? They dont show a dog getting abused. And rant over.

Has anyone ever noticed fish on tv?

its pathetic. nothing pisses me off more than those "vegetarians" who don't eat meat cause its cruel to the animals, but still eat seafood. you know cause apparently fish aren't living creatures like say cows or pigs.

I hate how disposable people make fish both on tv and in life, like when people buy fish not checkin if it will be compatible with their other fish. When people say its JUST a fish, i get really anoyed. They dont know the work people like us put into our fish

If that's acceptable then let's make a show where we go kick some dogs or cats. Its ridiculous how in the US some animals like dogs, cats, horses are put on a pedestal, but then others like fish in this case, are treated like garbage. Here in Miami people got their panties in a bunch a few years back when horses were illegally being slaughtered for the black market. Obviously I'm against that sort of activity, but I found it silly how animal rights folks were offended not by the theft/illegal slaughter, but by the idea that someone would kill/eat "such smart wonderful animals". But at the same time cattle and chickens are slaughtered by thousands, but God forbid something happens to a horse, dog, or cat. The double standard with certain animals vs others is ridiculous to me.

Most vegetarians aren't against animal meat they are against the process of killing and caring of the animal. I've seen this show its funny the things people do!

I need to spark up my fish life

I see this all the time fish are disposable pets in pet stores. So would it be ok for the lfs employee to tell someone that their great dane puppy will do fine with the small crate for ever. Or that the dog can eat cat food? Why is it ok to give wrong information about proper care of fish? Arent they pets?

Ps. My fishes food cost more than my dog food.

I saw that on the show and knew it was only a matter of time before it started to hit the fan. Its pretty ridiculous how they handle the fish. I'd like to know how many fish die from the handling on that show. People dont realize fish cruelty as inhumane because fish cant complain when theyre in pain. I dont see why they cant just use fake fish and put them in something slimey if grossing people out is what they are going for.

I didn't see the episode so I can't say much there. Otherwise this show is hilarious. It's soo funny. Their freaking out over hand and camels...it's crazy.

I'll have to watch the episode though to see what the hubub is all about.

Probably going to get banned for this, but fish aren't dogs or cats. Until the people see them as something more than fish (we eat fish) then its going to happen. Imo their not anywhere near a cat or dog. They can't react to your emotions on a bad day and you can't pet them for comfort. I agree fish aren't disposable and shouldn't be treated as such. I'm not going as far as some people though and won't give up my fish because I have to keep it for 30 years of its life. I'll keep a fish for a few years or so and at sometime I want to experience another kind and that fish will be shipped out to a responsible owner. To each their own.

For alot of people on this forum our fish do provide comfort and many more things. They are pets like any other. There are many more pets that u cant handle that are given more care, and better respect for their proper husbandry. IE certain reptiles and amphibians.

This show has feature many animals actually, dogs, bearded dragons, baby goats but the worst that happens to them is that they are pet. And even then it is more likely someone yells animal cruelty over those other animals being even used for the show vs the fish being killed or harmed for the show.
