Mine preferred cave-spawning. The pair colored up when the female was ripe with eggs. Spawning initiated after large water changes with slightly cooler water. Several hundred small eggs were deposited along the cave walls or in a central pit. The male guarded the cave entrance while the female inspected and fanned the eggs. The eggs hatched in about a day (temp dependent). The wigglers highest survival rates were when fed rotifers for several days before being fed newly hatched brine shrimp and daphnia. When out of daphnia, blended raw shrimp sufficed. Mortality rates were always high even when the pair were offered their own 240gal. The fry were free-swimming at 7-10 days and accepted all forms of fresh, frozen, and prepared foods. The fry that did survive were separated from the parents soon after free-swimming so, I don't know when the parents may abandon the brood to fend for themselves.
