i just bought an asian black crossback arrowana a couple months ago, u know, kept me happy and whatnot. But recently it looks like its got some kind of white spots growing on it, i was wondering what to do about this. thx.
Hiya and welcome to MFK,
how big are the spots, like grains of salt? If so it is probably ick.
Bigger and fuzzy, fungus.
Pea sized and pitted, one of the bacterial ulcers.
Can you send pics?
I have never kept aros so I don't know how tolerant of salt they are but otherwise I would advise starting a heat and salt treatment for ick as it often helps with both bacterial infections and fungus also.
Delgado has it down right, I would dissolve the salt in some water before adding it and pour it in where the water flows in from the filter to spread it around quicker and prevent brine spots from settling in the bottom of your tank.
The heat speeds the ick's life cycle and the salt kills the swimming stage so in a couple days you will see fewer parasites but do the whole 10 days to make sure you get them all.
