And it doesn't take long to measure the fish guy's salt when he starts talking. If you know more then him, give him a break...it sucks dealing with the public. By the way, they don't get much training so you really can't hold them to a very high measure. Anyone with a passion for fish is not offered any retention benifits, so good employees come and go as fast as the worst losers.

yup very true. a lot of the time, if i know better i will keep it to myself, unless it is something quite important, in which case i have been known to politely inform them otherwise. fortunately i'm known by a lot of the staff at my lfs so it isn't a problem for them, and fortunately most of them know im not giving criticism, just advise, and they are just as passionate of the hobby as myself, and don't mind learning, and vice versa.
usually the reason people get hired at pet stores is because they know something about what they are selling, i got hired cause I'm the only one in the store that knows anything about small animals. i come on here to i can learn stuff about fish.
There are some good ones in the mix, but I have to agree that most employees of places like that seem to be under the impression they know it all when it comes to fish. It's something that won't go away. I just applaud those who try to make a difference.
as a petsmart worker myself i know that people come in and want to try and test you if you know more than the guy at the fish wall just tell him what you want most are smart enough to just give you what you want and move on but i do understand it can be frustrating thats why i moved to pet training.

I work with several guys with that attitude.When they pull that "I've been here longer than you" crap, I remind them that I have a higher salary than they do.
