Hey everyone. My Oscars like to jump out of the tank....not onto the floor yet however. I have a 125g tank, with glass sections for the lid. There is about 6 inches of space not covered by glass on each of the 3 sections (this is where i drop food in for them). I am afraid with my fish liking to jump, they will land on the floor eventually and die, jumping through the 6 inch gaps.. Any one have any tips on how to construct something to keep my fish in the tank?

If I completely seal it off with glass, wont the fish suffocate? If I add in a bubbler, would they be ok with a sealed glass lid? (except some small space where the filter is)?

They'll be fine cover the gap as midnight said-Anne

alot of hardware stores will custom-cut glass for you, just bring in the measurements. of course call first.

if not in your area, there's gotta be a custom window or glass specialty store.

Yup, add an airstone regardless though. Your fish will thank you for it. If you don't feel comfortable with that, then use a mesh top. But glass or plexi always is nicer.

egg crate (aka the light fixture stuff aka light diffuser.. google it) is the best stuff IMO.. its super easy to cut, no water spots, does not stop gas exchange and its super cheap

if you can't afford adequate equipment right now but, love your fish. seal it with whatever you can! be creative yet safe. I lost two aros jumping through the small space in the hood by the filter. f.y.i, you won't suffocate the fish if you seal off the whole top.
