I just picked up a few bottles of ammonia to try the fish less cycle. I try end to test the ammonia out of the bottle and it won't read anything. Should it, not sure if my test kit is bad or the ammonia sucks

It reads 0 yellow out the bottle, maybe I'll put some in the tank and test it Monday , if it doesn't read I'll get a new test kit

if you have an ace around you they have a perfectly safe ammonia thats the ace brand that many people use for fishless cycle. You can do the shake test. Shake it and if theres foam or bubbles that linger longer than water bubbles then it has cleaning agents and crap in there you don't want in your tank.

I was not able to find ammonia anywhere that doesn't include' surficant' in the ingredients. Soap is a surficant. I just peed in it every day.

You can fishless cycle a tank in a number of ways! Ammonia isn't the only one, but you definitely won't need "a few bottles". You probably won't even need a whole one.

At work we cycle with ammonia (or ammonium sulfate) and sodium nitrite.

My favorite way to do it fishless is to simply add some food to the tank and let it rot. It's cheap, easy, and difficult to overdose.

Peeing also works. Urea will break down into ammonia.
