I had originally planned to do this, but when I set up my sump, I didn't want to ever have to clean it out. So, I didn't put any fish in it. Sump's been clean for almost 1.5 years now. Seems like a waste of space.

So I had some Midas breed in the display, and about 10-15 fry fell down the drain and live in the sump now. I feed them a little bit, they're doing great.

Don't know how I'll ever net them outta there.....So, I'm thinking about just keeping them in there. Anybody else do that? I figure I could start vacuuming the sump when the fish get to be 3-4 inches?

A member had fish in their sump, but that was a while ago, fry is probably finding lots of goodies to eat.:)

I had planned to keep a couple of little glow fishes for my kids, but never did. I do have some detritus in there as is, so I figured a few little fishes wouldn't harm much - never got around to it.

I know someone with a reef tank that sticks fish behaving badly there (i.e. picks on other fishes). They aren't that big and are thriving in the "penitentiary"...LOL

I keep fish in my sump. And the sump on my 315 I actually baffled off a whole Growout section where I can control water flow to it

My sumps almost always ended up with fry of some sort in them.
One of my favorites was a planted sump that held some haitiensus fry, until they killed each other, leaving only one.

But there were plenty of others with other cichlids, swordtails, even barbs. Anything that spawned ended up sending some fry to a sump.

I had to put my Texas in my sump for alittle "time out" punishment. I'm hoping it allows the fish he was bullying some time to set up some territory.

I just did this with my female midas! i put her her back in the main tank and shes behaving.

I kept dozens of flowerhorn fry to midas fry to many different types of fish. From dozens to one.

Sometimes for a time out and sometimes due to space issues. I sell flowerhorn or I used to so I used the space for them. Id rather keep 2 dozen in together than 4-5 together. They will kill each other so having a lot of them at once it disperses aggression.

Just remember poop is still in your tank and will increase bio load. I was changing out my second polyfil and sponges every other day. Without fish in my sump I would do it once a month.
