 Lately Ive noticed my fish Breathing a lil deep an heavy, all the levels are fine PH 6.4 , Nitrite 0ppm , Amoania 0.25ppm , Nitrate between 0.5 - 0.10ppm .

I just did a 1/3 water change an they still seem to be breathing the same as before.

Any thoughts & suggestions?

Ammonia should be at zero . Do water changes as frequent as you can to drop it further. Have you been cleaning your filter media regularly?

i agree, ammonia should be zero

btw fyi, it is important that you keep your filter clean of any debris, even though the bacteria eat fish waste that waste in your filter (if left alone long enough) can kill the very bacteria you are trying to cultivate.

new tank and filter? give us more details..

Tank has been setup for acouple Months, with 2 Whisper 5s, I thought it was time for newer filters as Ive had the whispers for over 5 years an figured that 2 AC500s would be more than enough for my 120.

you say all levels are fine and then list ammonia as 0.25?

Either your filters are not mature enough, or you're overstocked and underfiltered.

Add a power head and air pump...get water circulation going and what not. The added air will help with respiration and also help to remove some of the other harmful chemicals through binding to the molecules. Do a larger water change though....around 45 to 65%....;). BTW....did you leave your old filters on there for a few days/weeks after you put the new ones on? Cuz if you take the old ones off your basically removing a lotta the bacteri before the new ones can get established.....settin offa minicycle possibly...

A side note...LOOK! The Peanuts have united!! LoL! How kewl is that? This is the first time we have ever posted so closely...lol....looks kinda kewl....fear the peanuts! :P

I have 8 airstones in the tank, I left one old filter on the tank for about two weeks when I got the first AC500. Just took that one off yesterday.
