Anyone do this for the fish they have had for a long time? I was thinking of doing this with my rhom that passed after 17 years. However the more I think about it, it kind of weird. If it was a game fish I caught I think it would be a no brainier. This feels kinda like stuffing my dog.

Basically all they do is take the skin and put it on a metal frame wrapped in cotton. I'm sure you could even do it yourself with the right materials and a few hours on YouTube.

If you want to do this take it to a taxydermist it is a real art what they do. Not something you can maste in a few hours. Most taxydermists won't mount pets any way. It is to hard to please the owner.

Found a guy that does it. Another piranha owner I know is doing theirs and I'll see how it comes out. Be pretty much decided I'm going to bury him though. Just feels weird to mount him like a trophy and carry him from one house to the next. I don't want to let go beyond of all the childhood memories linked to the guy and crazy stories of surviving 10 moves and 2-3 weeks without power, etc but I need to.

I give my pets a final rest.
No stuffing.
That's just me.

Agree. The first 1-2 days I wanted to do the mount but now I will just bury him at my parents house which was his original home 17 years ago.

Fish are very tricky to mount properly. If someone did want to mount one of theirs, a professional would definitely be needed. And I'd definitely consider it for something that was big and dumb and had no personality, or something I hadn't had long enough to be attached to, but... yeah, mounting a pet is kinda weird. I mean, people do it, and they're welcome to, but I won't be.
