Well.......

We were cleaning our tanks when a friend popped over...The 55 was the last tank to clean...The B/F started the python up in the 55 gal, and we went upstairs, they left to get some beer, and I started dinner....Well, they came back, and we started talking about our brackish tank....A half hour later, the gurgling
of the water downstairs caught our attention.....

The tank was just about empty! We took action and started to pump water back into the tank, and took a few buckets out of our other 2 tanks in the basement....Out of 18 fish, we were able to save 11...We lost all of our Bosmonis...we had 5 of them, and we also lost a Red rainbow, and a malichi(sp)

That was about $75 worh of fish :(

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Never walk away from your tanks while cleaning them.....

I to learned this Lesson a few years ago, but thankfully I only lost one Fish.

u really gotta keep an eye on those tanks when syphoning. back when i used "bucket and hose method" before i got a python id always be spilling water all over the place. id turn my head for a 1 SECOND and itd pour all over everywhere...... it sucked

I learned a long time ago to set the depth of the python just in case.

You can lightly clamp the hose to the side of the tank or let the hood or tops hold it in place.

I've been there more than once.

i was letting the python drain my tank one time, while i was on the comp (which is right next to the tank). suddenly i saw a brown streak go down the python's line. I stopped the flow in time before the ropefish would have had his face mashed in by the python's outtake.

To my shame, I add this tale: last year, siphoning hair algae out of the reef tank (I had the tube in the water, and the actual plastic "tube" off, so I could suck the algae out direct), a clownfish got too close too fast, and suddenly no water or algae was soaring through the Python; a quickly killed percula blocked the path.

Had that happen once....sucked. Also accidently was doing tooo much and overfilled one tank while i was drainin another...oh man that was a bit chaotic for a few minutes! :P

i was filling 135 after doing water change , hooked up python and walked to bedroom and left to fill. I was on computer for a while, when i realized i had left water on. i walked to living room, to find it full of water. water all over the place. luckily however i have tile throughout the house and wasnt a big problem. just got a big broom and squeegeed out to back yard.

i never leave when syphoning water out cause sometimes the fish will get caught into the syphon. if it big enough, it will only leave a mark, if not, then it gets caught in the tube.

i use a regular garden hose to syphon the water so never used a python. with the hose the syphon is pretty strong
