New to the fish world been fishng my whole life and had all kinds of different animals but aquariums are new to me. I got alot of friends with some serious tanks who are helping but I like to get as much feedback as possible I hae a super basic tank 45 gallons no real decor yet. Just got a Columbian Shark and the wife got some mollies which I intend to have eaten. Any suggestions on decor or fish please do so

Welcome to MFK. If you look around the site at different tank setups and decide what you find to your liking is how I would start. The other thing is to figure out what kind of fish you want in your tank. This will help in determining how you should decorate the tank. Hope this helps Good Luck and most of all enjoy the experience and be careful fish become addictive!

I want predator fish my wife got a kck out of my brothers turtle chasing gold fish around and I am a typical retired marine that likes action so I want a very active predator tank ithink a want to do a very open tank with some natural background and some roots in the corner I think I'm gonna get a bichir, black shark, Jack Dempsey, and a baraccuda in the near future

Barracuda is a no go, d by himself maybe for awhile. A bichir would work, and a black shark maybe. If you want a predator that stays small get a rainbow wolf.

I don't want to do a rainbow wolf cause I want an open tank the wolf needs too many plants

well you can't house a jack dempsey. If you get a bichir it might grow more than 12" which will outgrow your tank depending on species (i think they all get at least 12 at some rate), and as kanta said a barracude is a bad idea.

I dont know anything about a "black shark" ...

I would pick something smaller. If you like JD, maybe a pair of jewel cichlids.

well this tank i got is a starter tank for me to kinda get a hang of it and then im going to build a much larger one probably 300-400 gallons on my dresser. The 45 gallon i got for free from the wifes boss so i figured i would raise some fish up and start building once they grow some so the tank is done by the time they need to move.

got a jewel cichlid from the LFS he is a loner i like that. I heard a employee there talking about the legends that black ghost knife fish are said to carry the spirit of the deceased. anyone else ever here that.
