i have a 120 gallon tank and i was wondering how many cichlids i can put in it?

Welcome to MFK!!!

We need more specifics. What cichlids are you interested in keeping? There are cichlids from the rift lakes that measure from less than 1/2" to over 3 feet.

thanks for welcoming me to the site!!!

i have some cichlids already but i want to fill the tank to capicity with different verities. the species i am going with are african but i am not sure if they are rift cichlids? i mean nothing to exocitic or expensive. just the run of the mill besides the black calvis i have.

The black calvus is from Lake Tanganyika and is a rift species. Calvus are somewhat shy. You can try other Tanganyikas like leleupi, brichardi, or julidichromis. There are also a number of shell dwellers that remain fairly small. You may be able to get away with some of the less agressive peacock cichlids from Malawi or maybe even a demasoni, which stays small. If you want to spend a little more you could try some small Frontosa.

yeah frontosas would do well in that tank. also you could make a huge tropheus colony, they look so awesome with lots of caves and open space in a big tank like that. also some malawi, peacocks and haps.

Welcomt to MFK. May you learn lots from the answers you get. Some questioable and others worthwhile. If you have Tanganyikans I wopuld look at sticking with them. There are some really great colourful fish you should be able to obtain. Tropheus can be rather aggressive, even more so than the Malawi mbuna.
How about a pic or two of the tank?
:naughty: :woot: :clap :clap   :headbang2  :mwave:
