I have a 9" xingu pike i want to bring back on a 9 hr trip from visiting my mom. I have a 40g cooler and fish will fast for 3 days. is all good?

It should be fine. Fish generally spend more time than that in boxes during shipping. Get a battery operated aerater if if you want to make sure that it has plenty of oxygen.
I would say you are good to go. When I order fish at work, they get a 9 hour bus ride and I am guessing they are in the bags a few hours before that happens.
