Apparently this is a 5 foot long, 120 gallon aquarium but I noticed there wasn't a cross bar. The current owner says he obtained it from a remodeling project he was working on so he's never had water in it. With that said, I'm hesitant to buy it, try to fill it up with water and then something crazy happens with the tank. What do you guys think?

as long as the silicone is still good i would test it outside first and let the water sit in it for a day if it has no leaks then you should be fine

it all depends on how thick the glass is, the newer tanks use thinner glass and a cross brace. Older tanks use much thicker glass and no cross brace.

I don't think he is worried about it leaking due to failed silicone, I think he is concerned about the lack of center brace causing catastrophic failure

Thanks everyone for the tips. Yeah, I have 2 small children and no budget for 120 gallons of water spilling into my house.

Suppose I fill it with water and it's ok for a day or so... Would I have nothing to worry about in the days to come?

Is there anything I can do to help support the tank with the lack of the center brace being there?

maybe set that tank up just in your garage or something for a week or 2 just to be on the safe side maybe someone else will chime in with more info but i would just set it up in the garage to test it but thats just me i dont think there is anything you could do to help support it

i would set it up in the gradge as well i wouldnt want to risk flooding my house

Yeah, if I end up getting it I'm definitely going to do that. The guy is willing to give it up for 100 but if e tank is a bust... I'm out a 100 as well and left to clean up 120 gallons of water.
