Folks,

My friend and I bought ourselves the a type of flowerhorn fish pellets as shown in the following photographs. We have never had any experience with using this brand.

We have have also bought Azoo 9-in-1 Flowerhorn pellet. Again, this is a completely new brand to us.

Many thanks in advance.

i have know clue u should try flowerhorncraze.com it looks like a high protein pellet

i am guessing that u stay at kolkata..the idiots there hav hiped azoo pellets like anything..as for the first pellet in the pic do not use it without knowing what brand it is..new life spectrum is the best food for fh in my experience but due to its unavailability at kolkata u can go for hikari cichlid excel or for ocean free pellets..but again the latter has a very high protein content..overall considering where ur located, hikari is the best available option..azoo arrowana 9 in 1 pellets are not bad from what i know..the azoo fh pellets also shouldnt be bad but r not as good as hikari cichlid pellets.

I stay close to Kolkata. FH food popular around these parts are Ocean Free XO ones. I have used both Hikari and Ocean Free. In my experience, if the FH has good potential, the brand of food wouldn't matter much.

But, if one has a female FH, then a lot of work needs to be done selecting the right blend of foods. For example, I have found shrimp brings out pink coloration in the female FH which I own. Hikari or Ocean Free did not have much of an impact. The fish survived. That's about all.

The only reputed brands which I have never used thus far are Chingmix, NLS and, of course, the one I bought a few days ago - Azoo. Chingmix is expensive. Very very expensive here. NLS - I have no clue as to who trades it here.

Azoo FH pellets are really not very hyped in Kolkata. At least not what I can make out. People talk about Ocean Free XO Humpy Head, Starry, Red Syn, C.P. Cichlid and Hikari all the time.

I also feed my FH freeze-dried tubiflex worms. I wonder which food does what, but certainly I have got it now in a shade of pink with neon-colored borders around the flowers. Its got real long flowing fins, too.

I like Grand Sumo green and red and agree NLS is awesome pellets (I'll probably just stick with the NLS when I run out of Grand Sumo). Mix em up! Never saw the Head Up flowerhorn pellets but agree they must be a high protein offering aimed at KOK growth. I tried the Azoo 9 in 1 Flowerhorn pellets and they seemed to work fine - never went and bought them again though... For my high priced specimens I an currently using Grand Sumo red and green and NLS (thera-a) with the occasional treat of market shrimp (I get fresh Kahuku Shrimp:D - google it! - Hawaii grown shrimp so sweet they don't need butter!), spirulina enriched brine shrimp (Hikari),and bloodworms (Hikari). Spoiled bastards. I even got them some Hikari jumbo krill and Hikari jumbo mysis shrimp but they hate it :irked:. No matter what you feed it, if it doesn't have the genes don't expect incredible results. Quality food just helps it along.

Too add... 51% protein on the Head Up flowerhorn pellets is a dead giveaway that those pellets are aimed at KOK growth. It has added astaxanthin which is good for red coloration - but watch out for unnatural color enhancers (chemicals).

I am not a huge fan of Hikari pellets. If you check out the ingredient list on the bio-gold and excel they both add MSG. Fish dont need MSG... If anything I would stick with the cichlid gold and staple. I have a bunch of Hikari pellets that I got for practically nothing and will use them up on my lesser quality flowerhorns and other fishes. However, when I use the Hikari pellets up, I will be switching over to NLS pellets exclusively. I have had/am having great results with NLS.

If your looking for red coloration, I have had incredible results with Grand Sumo Red. I noticed a difference in only a couple of days of feeding red exclusively! The red coloration became more deep and started to creep towards the tail! Good luck finding Grand Sumo in India though.:p.

there is no doubt that it all ultimately depends on the genes of the fh but that together with good food brings out the best in them..and NLS is one of the best food that i hav seen for fh..the best u can do here is import it..but again its really expensive here..i hav switched from ocean free pellets due to really high protein content..now use hikari cichlid pellets which r workin quite well..i give shrimps as a treat sometimes but they shouldnt be given on a regular basis..its best to use a pellet as regular food..if u wanna try azoo go ahead..if it does well then give it as a staple diet to ur fh..i really havent tried it but they r hyping it in the shops ..theres no need to give freeze dried worms they really dont do anything..dont use the fh food in the pic u showed..it is a really high protein food..it vil ultimately reduce the lifespan of ur fish..n anyway your fh is female so it wont hav a head as such.

I am not looking to enhance my FH's kok. Unlike many who prize FH simply for its kok or the immenseness of it, I on the other hand try to keep my fishes happy no matter what they look like. In my own way, I try to bring out the best of whatever my fishes can offer.

For instance, my female FH seems to bringing out some colors which I never really knew it could have. Feeding it shrimps have had some effect.

I am trying to find out who sells Grand Sumo Red, NLS, etc. in my region.
